From Vaide to the Constitutional Court

I was born in 1975 in Riga and grew up in Liepāja. As a schoolboy I packed fish roe at the "Kursa" cannery, assembled pram frames at the Liepāja pram factory and stood behind the bar at the "Pūt, vējiņi" concert garden. From 1993 to 1995 I was an orderly with the Liepāja emergency medical service, assisting paramedics and doctors. That is where I learned to work nights and to stay calm when everyone else is not. One night I had to deliver a baby at home: the children and the husband were screaming around me, he was beside himself with worry, and the one who had to stay calm was me. All ended well, and afterwards we were all happy. I will never forget that night. Since then I know how life begins.

After the RTU Liepāja technical college (installation and operation of electrical equipment) I moved to Riga. I sold televisions at SIA "Gerkens un Partneri", spent four years as a waiter and bartender at the "Radisson SAS Daugava" hotel, sold Toyota cars, was head waiter at the "Čarlstons" restaurant and service consultant at the "Aztec" restaurant. In the summer of 2002 I was a bricklayer's labourer in Dublin, where we built a LIDL store. The bricks were heavy and the Irish were cheerful.

In between all that, from 1999 to 2003, I studied at the "Turība" School of Business and qualified as a lawyer. From 2001 I ran SIA "Ratio" and administered insolvent companies, acting as administrator in five companies.

From 2003 to 2007 I was an advocate's assistant at the office of advocate Guntis Grants: real estate, inheritance, family, property and contract disputes, representation in courts and public authorities. At the same time I was in-house lawyer at the real estate companies SIA "Namīpašums", SIA "Brasla 27" and SIA "L.T. Serviss "Uzņēmums Tehnika"", handling building management disputes in central Riga. From 2003 to 2009 I was managing director of SIA "Dalbes līcis": property reconstruction and hotel construction in Ozolnieki municipality.

From 2004 to 2020 I was a certified insolvency administrator. I administered about 240 proceedings of both individuals and companies: claims against board members for losses, recovery of funds, setting aside of transactions, cross-border insolvency. I rescued companies through legal protection proceedings, restructuring and settlements. For several years I ran operating businesses: a sawmill with about 100 employees, a shopping centre and a slaughterhouse. I kept the books and annual accounts myself, valued assets and ran auctions.

Since 2004 I have practised as a lawyer in civil, commercial, employment, criminal, tax and constitutional law. On 23 April 2015 I became a sworn advocate and a member of the Latvian Collegium of Sworn Advocates. From 2018 to 2023 I was also a personal data protection officer.

On 2 May 2023 and 10 December 2025 the Constitutional Court delivered judgments in cases No. 2022-02-01 and No. 2024-21-0103, in which I represented the applicants. In both cases the court found the provisions incompatible with the Constitution. More about them in the "Cases" section.
